From Concept to Completion: Luxshade Project
In one of our recent projects, we installed a LuxShade pergola for a client who had very particular needs for Sukkot, the Jewish holiday that calls for outdoor activities. With its retractable cover, LuxShade is a modern pergola that's ideal for open or private areas. It was an exciting start because this project presented the team with multiple opportunities for creativity and resourcefulness. Initially, we needed to establish concrete footings which are essential for a system of this scale and provide some fundamental protection. During the process, we discovered that we needed to relocate a downspout to align more accurately with the final position of the pergola. This task prompted us to strategically consider the optimal placement of the building. Furthermore, we recognized the importance of having proper drainage around the pergola to avoid any water pooling near the base. We took advantage of this opportunity to install a drainage system that diverts water, guaranteeing the pergola's lasting strength.
Another important aspect of this project was the client's wish to be able to enter the pergola from the outside easily, even when the shades are lowered, especially during Sukkot. This posed a distinct challenge because the vertical Zip shades are usually completely sealed when shut. In order to fulfill this requirement, we placed glass panels on the house's side, enabling the customer to access the pergola effortlessly without having to lift the shades. The glass offered both functional entrance and preserved a sense of openness and lightness while also providing privacy and shelter from the elements.
We placed two fans and two heaters in the pergola to make it cozy throughout the year. These features ensure that the structure remains usable all year round because the heaters provide warmth in the winter and the fans keep the area cool during the warmer months. Furthermore, the system was designed with a rain sensor that prompts the shades to automatically retract when it rains, providing convenient and total protection. Using LED lighting, we completed the installation and created a welcoming, well-lit space that can be used during the day as well as at night.
